National Diabetes Month

November is National Diabetes Month. Diabetes is a preventable disease where insulin, which is a hormone that converts sugars, starches and other food types into sustainable energy for the body, can not be produced or properly used. Both children and adults can suffer from diabetes. There are four major types of diabetes with their respective symptoms and effects on the body: Type I, Type II, Gestational diabetes, and Pre-diabetes.

Promoting Prevention: If we build awareness and educate people in our circle about diabetes prevention measures we can reduce the spread of the disease together! I've seen people use promotional t-shirts to raise money for Diabetes Research. You can think about hosting a fitness and nutrition session at the workplace with your local diabetes specialist. Organizations like American Diabetes Association have resources you need so that you can develop your own means of preventing or eradicating the disease amongst your friends, family, and co-workers. See your doctor, if you think you are at risk of diabetes!

Let us make National Diabetes Month about education, communication, support, and prevention!
