History Awareness Date: Casablanca

November 26, 1942: Casablanca premieres at Hollywood Theatre in New York City.

“Here’s looking at you kid.” Just one of the infamous quotes from Rick Blaine, a cynical American expatriate and club owner located in Vichy-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca during World War II. The memorable motion picture has pools of iconic music, characters, and dialogue that make Casablanca a timeless and remarkable film about man’s internal conflict of love (his former love—Ilsa Lund) and integrity (getting Ilsa Lund and her husband, a Resistance Leader out of the country before the Germans catch him with two very valuable letters of transit in Blaine’s possession).

Casablanca is definitely a classic romantic film.
