Health Literacy Month

October is Health Literacy Month and major concerns related to health illiteracy include the following:

  • The majority of adults lack the skills needed to manage their health and to prevent disease
  • Limited health literacy and lack of health resources that are understandable and accessible have negative implications for health results and for the quality and costs of health care.
This month is dedicated to health education; it is a time for health literacy advocates to teach people around the world about health issues through understandable information, events, and like resources. Build a concern for the wellness of your community and yourself!

There are numerous ways to participate during Health Literacy Month. Education and building awareness are great ways to address the problems and decrease consequences related to health illiteracy. Firstly, you can start by strengthening your knowledge of your own health by reading newsletters providing by legitimate, well-versed organizations like Mayo Clinic or WebMD. You can couple with a local outreach projects hosted by the local clinic or hospital or sponsor your own weekly sessions about different health topics with your community or co-workers, giving out pamphlets or promotional items related to health.
