In a bipartisan show of support for cancer research, the U.S. Congress recently declared May as National Cancer Research Month. The resolutions from the U.S. Senate (S.Res.394) and U.S. House of Representatives (H.Res.448) recognized the 100th anniversary of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the importance of continuing support for cancer research.
Although the acknowledgment and putting aside of the month is an important step towards securing the future of cancer research, it's still important to support the efforts of our nation's scientists with adequate funding. The AACR has a webpage listing several ways of showing support, including secure online donations.
Throughout the rest of the month, the AACR will be showcasing the work of researchers in their 31 Days of Discovery series. This is an excellent PR opportunity for corporations and other organizations to build community goodwill. Just don't forget to print up some promotional t-shirts or other giveaways if you are planning a media event to publicize your support.
