National Preparedness Month

Many people are unaware that September is National Preparedness Month. It's an opportunity for you to stand back and examine just how prepared you are for a potential disaster. This month reminds you to reinforce your homes, schools, and offices with supplies that will allow you to effectively manage a disaster if and when it strikes. With a little bit of planning and investment, you can offer your employees items that will not only make them feel more prepared, but will also remind them that you care for their well-being. Giving out items like customized first-aid kits, bottled water, and hand-powered flashlights will make your employees that much more able to function when a disaster strikes.

In light of natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina and the Pacific Tsunami, consider organizing fundraisers to raise money to donate to organizations like the Red Cross and UNICEF, whose services help those suffering from the effects of natural disasters.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

With October slowly approaching, it's time once again for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is a malady that strikes scores of women in our country every year. Since most people have been affected by breast cancer in some way, shape or form, many use this time to reflect on those who've either lost their battle with the disease, are currently fighting it, or have managed to conquer it.

With its numerous walks, fundraisers, and charity events, it is easy for someone to align their business or company with this cause. There are a number of breast-cancer related items, all outfitted with the cause's signature pink color, that you can give out to clients or employees to show your support.

You also might want to consider organizing a fundraiser at your job among your co-workers or employees, with all proceeds going toward breast cancer research or treatment. Another tactic could be to organize a team for a breast cancer walk comprised of members of your company. It will strengthen relationships while supporting a truly worthy cause.
